“I won’t want you to miss it. Meet me in New Orleans. Feb. 9, 2025,” he adds. “Wear your best dressed, too, even if you watch it from home.”
Jay Z‘s Roc Nation has been working with the NFL since a partnership was formed in 2019. Roc Nation’s entertainment leg was tasked with being tastemakers and basically figuring out who would perform at future Super Bowl halftime shows.
Since he took over the entertainment efforts, performances have included The Weeknd, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Friends, Rihanna, and Usher, but now he’s excited for the Compton lyricist.
“Kendrick Lamar is truly a once-in-a-generation artist and performer. His deep love for hip-hop and culture informs his artistic vision,” Jay said in a statement. “He has an unparalleled ability to define and influence culture globally. Kendrick’s work transcends music, and his impact will be felt for years to come.”
The Super Bowl announcement is major news, but it doesn’t detract from the artist’s recently highly publicized beef with Drake, as the two fought through rounds of scathing tracks.
Even Lamar’s mention of round two could reference Drake posting a Rasheed Wallace clip about game two, promising that the battle isn’t over.
