Nearly a year after his beef with Kendrick Lamar started, Drake has finally released his first project since.
With PartyNextDoor tagging along for a collaborative album, $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, Drizzy and his OVO protege spend a total of 21 tracks in their emo, petty, and melodic bag about their fleeting relationships with women.
But with a project that long, of course, Drake had to offer up a few bars about his drama-filled 2024.
It all comes to a head in the middle of the album with the song ‘Gimmie A Hug.’ Sans PND’s crooning, Drake addresses his newfound enemies with lines like, “Funny how it’s only b-tch n-ggas that are waiting on the boy’s obituary.”
In the next few lines, he appears to take shots at K. Dot, implying that if he were running the rap game, it’d be tough to fill his shoes when it comes to club hits.
“‘Cause if I die, it’s these n-ggas that become the sole beneficiary. And what the f-ck are they gon’ do with it?” he questions. “Head of girls up at 29, on stage twerkin’ with a dictionary.”
Then he name-drops 21 Savage by giving him props because he was the “only n-gga checkin’ on me when we really in some sh-t.”
After that, he addresses longtime foe Joe Budden by name-dropping fellow Canadian and The Joe Budden Podcast host Melyssa Ford.
“Melyssa Ford, you a legend from the 6, hate to see you with a d-ck-sucker,” he raps.
As the second verse ends, he even appears to respond to Lamar’s advice on “euphoria” when he quips, “I like Drake with the melodies, I don’t like Drake when he acts tough.” He hits back with, “F-ck a rap beef, I’m tryna get the party lit.”
One of the few other times Drake seems to address the beef is on ‘Brian Steel,’ when he mentions Young Thug’s plea for him to make amends with Future and Metro Boomin.
But Drake appears to be holding the grudge, rapping, “Broski just hit me, said, ‘Put all the beef on the side,’ I can’t/ N-ggas want meet up, talk about sh-t, I’m vegan now/ Evil eyes were staring at me and I see it now.”
