1. Heath Ledger
The actor died from a prescription overdose a third of the way into the filming of The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. He was 28 years old.
2. John Ritter
Ritter starred in the comedy “8 Simple Rules To Dating My Teenage Daughter” in 2002. He complained of chest pains during rehearsal and collapsed, dying a short time later. He was 54 years old.
3. Lynne Thigpen
She passed away suddenly from a brain hemorrhage in 2003 while she was in the middle of taping the third season of CBS’ “The District” as police chief aide Ella Farmer. The show’s third season finale contained a tribute to her character.
4. River Phoenix
The 23-year-old actor died from a drug-induced heart attack in front of a popular hang out The Viper Room. He was in the middle of shooting the film Dark Blood.
5. Steve Irwin
The Australian adventurer was filming the underwater documentary “Ocean’s Deadliest” when he was struck in the chest by the tail of a stingray and died at the scene.
6. Robin Harris
His standup routines contained hilarious content about his girlfriend always wanting to bring her son and his friend on their dates which is where the feature film idea for ‘Bebe’s Kid’s’ was born. Unfortunately, he died of a heart attack in the early stages of production so it was changed to an animated feature film.
7. Michelle Thomas
She was on both sitcoms Family Matters and the Cosby Show. After Family Matters ended in 1998, she landed the role of Callie Rogers Stark on The Young and the Restless. In 1997, she was diagnosed with a rare form of stomach cancer and died in December of 1998. She was also in the movie “Unbowed” which was released posthumously.
8. Jerry Orbach
He played Detective Lennie Briscoe on Law & Order for several seasons. He joined a spin-off “Law & Order: Trial By Jury” but only taped two episodes before he passed away from prostate cancer.
9. Philip Seymour Hoffman
Lionsgate spokespersons stated that the actor had one major, emotional scene left to film in the final installment of the Hunger games. He died of an accidental heroin overdose. He was 46.
