What You Need To Know:

Tracy Scott is a black woman who is on the battlefield to ensure that black women are recognized and accounted for in society. While most of the news is dominated by the horrific coronavirus, Tracy is keeping our eyes on the prize — VOTING. Here is a recent article from her Black Women’s Pac newsletter:

“As we transition into an unprecedented modern-day pandemic lockdown, we should take note and remember the decisions of our local elected officials. They serve as policy enforcers who govern over our protection and treatment. Lately, we’ve seen county and city officials; judge, commissioner, justice of the peace, mayor and city council take center stage to administer law, share warnings and provide assistance.

We have seen examples of power, sound reason, compassion and empathy, or lack thereof, from the top of the ballot, the governor’s office, to the bottom the ballot, county judges and commissioners who govern the courts and incarceration facilities. It’s up to you to better understand how their decisions impact your life now and in the future. It’s up to you to elect qualified representatives who have an agenda that reflects the needs of your community.

Ask yourself these questions: Am I satisfied with their decisions? Do I feel confident my best interest was a deciding factor? When is the election? Voter turnout to elect local office holders is consistently lower, by the tens of thousands, in non-presidential years. Hopefully, you are planning to vote this year and next. There is an election every year and you live by the rules and financial allocations chosen by elected officials.”

Tracy, we salute you and ask that you keep us honest, keep us informed and keep us focused on those issues that will affect our lives. Happy Women’s History Month!
