A mother of twin boys has died of her injuries after being shot by her ex-husband in her home on April 16.

Habibba Moneque Walker, 45, died of a gunshot wound to the head after being placed on life support for 5 days according to AL.com. Dereck Jamaille Walker, her ex-husband, is being held in Escambia County Jail.

He waived extradition in a Pensacola court-house two days after the shooting. As of the incident he was charged with attempted murder and first-degree armed burglary. However, since Habibba’s death, the authorities want to charge him with capital murder. For that, he will be extradited back to Jefferson County where the crime took place.

According to reports, Dereck broke into the home. When the 9-year-old twins saw him coming with a gun they ran to a neighbor’s house. Two shots rang out from their home.

“It takes a special kind of evil to break in the house and murder someone you at least once professed to love, built a family with and fathered two 9-year-old-twin precious little boys with,” said Chief Deputy Randy Christian. “There is just no understanding that. We will get justice for these children and for this poor woman.”

Habibba, who has an older son in addition to her twins, worked as a nurse’s assistant at a VA hospital.
