ONCE YOU GET A COLD SORE, IT’S FOREVER???

AThe cold sore can be treated and will eventually go away, however HSV-1, which is the virus that causes cold sores never goes away. Cold sores can be triggered by stress, exposure to sunlight, fever or and other factors that impact the immune system.

According the World Health Organization 2017 By age 40, nearly 90% of adults have been exposed to the herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1), which causes cold sores. People are usually infected as children, but just because you have HSV-1 doesn’t mean that you will get a cold sore. For those who do, however, cold sores can be painful.

CAN GUM DISEASE BE SPREAD BY A KISS?

Yes it can! In a recent published study in the Journal of “Microbiome” A kiss can exchange up to 80 million bacteria. And half of all adults in the US have some type of gum disease. Kissing someone who has gum disease or cavity-causing bacteria can cause someone else who previously had a low concentration of “bad” bacteria to “catch” dental problems, due to the increased concentration of “bad” bacteria — especially if that person has poor oral hygiene habits, which set the stage for tooth decay. The saliva exchanged when sharing a drinking glass, utensils, or even a kiss can transmit the bacteria that cause gum disease and periodontal disease.

MY NIECE IS ALWAYS LETTING HER DOGS KISS HER IN THE FACE YUCK! NOW SHE JUST HAD A BABY. CAN SHE SPREAD DOG GERMS TO THE BABY?

Pets carry certain bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi that can cause illness if transmitted to humans. Humans get these animal-borne diseases when they’re bitten or scratched or have contact with an animal’s waste, saliva, or dander.

These diseases can affect humans in many ways. They’re of greatest concern to young children, infants, pregnant women, and people whose immune systems have been compromised by illness or disease. Infants and kids younger than 5 years old are at risk because their immune systems are still developing, and some infections that might make an adult just mildly sick can be more serious for them.

QUESTION FOR THE DOCTOR. I AM 57 YEARS OLD. I HAVE NOT SEEN A MENSTRUAL CYCLE FOR 4 YEARS WITH IRREGULAR CYCLE 2 YEARS PRIOR TO THAT. BUT ON NEW YEAR’S EVE BAM! 7 FULL DAYS OF COMPLETE AGONY! I HAVEN”T DONE ANYTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY. WHAT’S REALLY GOING ON?

Vaginal bleeding after menopause isn’t normal and should be evaluated by your doctor. For instance, postmenopausal vaginal bleeding can be caused by issues associated with the cervix or vagina. Thinning of the tissues lining the uterus (endometrial atrophy) or vagina (vaginal atrophy).

WHAT WERE THE REMEDIES YOU MENTIONED YOU USE FOR COLD SORES?

I use an over the counter (OTC) called Aubio. As a cold sore sufferer myself, I have tried many different products, but Aubio works for me and provides fast and effective temporary relief of pain and itching from cold sores. I also use Aubio’s lip balm.

I HAVE HERPES 1 AND 2 AFTER 12 YEARS I JUST GOT INTO A RELATIONSHIP. WE’VE NEVER HAD SEX BUT HE WANTS TO HAVE SEX, I”M AFRAID IF I TOLD HIM, I WOULD LOSE HIM. TO PREVENT HIM FROM GETTING HERPES, WHAT SHOULD I DO AND SAY? IF I DON’T HAVE AN OUTBREAK COULD I HAVE SEX WITHOUT PROTECTION?

I would not suggest having sex without protection if you have HSV-2, as it can still be spread without having an outbreak.  If you have herpes, you should talk to your sex partner(s) and let him or her know that you do and the risk involved. Using condoms may help lower this risk, but it will not get rid of the risk completely.

Having sores or other symptoms of herpes can increase your risk of spreading the disease. Even if you do not have any symptoms, you can still infect your sex partners. Even while taking treatment, you can spread the herpes virus to your partner.

You may have concerns about how genital herpes will impact your overall health, sex life, and relationships. It is best for you to talk to a health care provider about those concerns, but it also is important to recognize that while herpes is not curable, it can be managed with medication but does not stop the spreading with treatment.

Daily suppressive therapy (i.e., daily use of antiviral medication) for herpes can also lower your risk of spreading genital herpes to your sex partner, but not completely eliminate it. Be sure to discuss treatment options with your healthcare provider. Since a genital herpes diagnosis may affect how you will feel about current or future sexual relationships, it is important to understand how to talk to sexual partners about STDs.

MY DAUGHTER HAS CROHN’S DISEASE AND GETS COLD SORES VERY OFTEN. SHE HAS ASKED ME ABOUT DOING SUPPRESSION THERAPY, BUT I”M CONCERNED THAT BECAUSE HER IMMUNE SYSTEM IS ALREADY SUPPRESSED THAT THIS DRUG WILL SUPPRESS IT MORE. WHAT DO YOU THINK?

Daily suppressive therapy (i.e., daily use of antiviral medication) like Acyclovir tablets may slightly shorten the duration of pain and the healing time of a first attack of cold sores, but does not stop the spread of them to others. I would suggest using Aubio Cold Sore Treatment Gel instead of using oral therapy, to reduce the chance of complications in a patient with Crohn’s disease.

Aubio can be applied up to 3-4 times a day for fast and effective temporary relief of pain and itching from cold sores. Your doctor was recommending autoimmune suppressing drugs for the Crohn’s Disease and not the cold sores, then I would recommend talking to your doctor and doing additional research on his or her recommended drug. Before using any suppressive medications, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, conditions related to a weakened immune system (such as HIV disease, bone marrow transplant, kidney transplant).
