Some Hot Stuff is headed to Broadway this spring.
Producers announced Tuesday that Summer: The Donna Summer Musical, currently playing at San Diego’s La Jolla Playhouse, will begin a Broadway run on April 23, following previews slated to begin March 28.
The production – featuring a book by Colman Domingo, Robert Cary and Des McAnuff, choreography by Sergio Trujillo and direction by McAnuff – will set up shop at Broadway’s Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.
Told through the dramatic lens of her final concert, the bio-production presents the complexities and conflicts the famed songwriter and singer faced in her meteoric rise and descent. The show features a score with more than 20 of Summer’s classic hits including “Love to Love You, Baby,” “Bad Girls” and “Hot Stuff.”
The current twice-extended engagement at La Jolla Playhouse, which wraps on Christmas Eve, features Tony winner LaChanze, Ariana DeBose and Storm Lever playing the title role at different points in her life. [Watch video from the La Jolla Playhouse performance above.]
Casting for the Broadway production will be announced at a later date.
