It’s not every day that someone paddles a burglar and teaches them a valuable lesson about not taking things that don’t belong to you.

Former Mayor of Jackson, Mississippi and current pastor Tony Yarber did just that when he and his family were getting ready for church October 29, 2017.

WQAD reports that Yarber and his family were getting ready for church when his wife saw a couple of men sitting in a car near their house. The ex-mayor went to investigate when he came upon 22-year-old Juwuan Bibbs breaking into his truck.

Yarber jumped into action, kicking Bibbs and the car door shut. Bibbs who was armed began to run when Yarber grabbed him in a headlock and took him to this garage.

Then Bibbs said something that angered Pastor. “He asked me not to kill him because he’s got a 2-month-old baby, and I’m like, ‘My kids are in my house right now.’”

Yarber, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, asked for his fraternity paddle and began beating the suspect with it until police came.

“When you break in people’s stuff, it’s because somebody ain’t whopped your tail!” shouted Yarber in a video recorded by his son.

“If he was going to go to jail for a day and get out, I wanted to remember why he went,” explained Yarber.

According to the Jackson Clarion Ledger, Bibbs was arrested and put in jail on a $20,000 bond. He was charged with auto burglary and possession of marijuana.

Yarber and his family are safe, but Bibbs is probably sitting on sore butt right about now.
