An Atlanta man was killed in his sleep after two men broke into his home.
According to WSB-TV news, the men stole boxes of marijuana-infused edibles from the home.
30-year-old Steven Mayer was asleep when the suspects broke into his home and killed him back in September.
While still at large, the family of Steve Mayer is hoping police will catch and charge the suspects with surveillance video that’s surfaced.
According to police, there were three suspects involved in the incident.
A childhood friend of Mayer, Yordi Warner in tears told WSB-TV, “he was killed in the privacy of his own home.”
On a video, the three suspects can be seen waiting outside for three hours before going in through a basement window.
“I think they were outside mustering up the courage,” explained Darius Ward a Police Detective for DeKalb County.
One suspect stood outside on guard while the other two went inside. Ward believes that Mayer woke up and scared the intruders.
I believed they panicked. These guys didn’t look like professionals at all,” says Ward. “It seemed like it was their first rodeo.”
Robbery is believed to be the motive for the break-in because the suspects left the house with boxes of marijuana-infused edibles.
Mayer’s family remembers him as funny, very smart and entrepreneur. The family has raised reward money to help find the suspects responsible for the death of Steven Mayer.
