NEW YORK (AP) — Lawyers for former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick say he has filed a grievance against the NFL, alleging that he remains unsigned as a result of collusion by owners.

Kaepernick started a national conversation about political activism by athletes last season when he decided to sit, and then kneel, during the national anthem to protest mistreatment of African-Americans by police. Other players have continued the protests this season, prompting an angry response from President Donald Trump, who said players should be fired for not standing during the anthem.

Kaepernick opted out of his contract with the 49ers at the end of last season and remains a free agent despite a rash of injuries and poor play at the quarterback position.

Mark Geragos, one of Kaepernick’s attorneys, tweeted out a statement Sunday saying he filed the grievance “only after pursuing every possible avenue with all NFL teams and their executives.”

“If the NFL (as well as all professional sports leagues) is to remain a meritocracy, then principled and peaceful political protest — which the owners themselves made great theater imitating weeks ago — should not be punished,” Geragos said in the statement, “and athletes should not be denied employment based on partisan political provocation by the executive branch of our government.”

I knew this was coming! Agent orange helped this come about with his dumb remarks and jerry jones making another dumb move by threatening anybody that didn’t stand. He made all the right moves! Now it’s time to expose the owners and coaches. Good Luck Kap!

He quit his job. Why didn’t he opt for another team while with the 49ers? That’s usually what a person does before leaving his current employer. Hope it works out for him,

  6. Wow, that butt hurt over a pair of socks, damn! But, not over men, women, and children being gunned down in the streets. I hope that he sues and gets enough so that he doesn’t have to play or look at those pasty face aholes ever again. F ’em in the butt with a big one!

  7. I wish he could get a contract with there being so many 0-6 or 1-6 teams. It is collision; but the courts will not force a team to sign him.

Sometimes it’s not about the “instant” but the future when filing court cases. You’re probably right, and the NFL will hold this in court for years to come and he won’t ever play in the NFL again. They already conspired to make sure that would be the case. This legal case is bigger than him. Look at our history, court cases change things.
      What are pig socks?

      • When he was protesting he wore a pair of socks that had a pic of “ cops dressed like a pig”. Lol. Then he wore a Fidel Castro t-shirt. And the latest thing he did was he supported that Eminem Video last wk from BET awards. Lol. he’s digging himself a big hole

      • The best way to get out of a hole is to stop digging. Kaep the Knee Taker is burying himself, one shovel full at a time. I don’t even watch football and don’t know what kind of player he is, but a person would have to be in a coma not to know that his current status has nothing to do with how good of a football player he is.

I think he should go for it. This is the first step and he is doing it in the proper order. All the owners conspired to ensure he would never play in the NFL again, even at the detriment to their season record 0-6, psssh you really need another quarter back but won’t even give this guy a try out. If not collusion, then what? Hate? I thinks it’s both.

  9. If history has taught anything it’s that the underdog eventually wins. CK is doing the right thing. Make the NFL sweat, and maybe the owners will lose some money on this deal, they should lose their teams, but one can only hope for the best.

Fool wasnt kicked out of the league– he quit! No one is obligated to “re-hire” him. If this gains traction then Tim Tebow and Terrell Owens should follow suit!

  11. Yeah right. Good look with this CK. Your pockets aren’t this deep. Cut your loses. I knw you feel you should do this, but I think you will be fighting a losing battle.
