A man was arrested in Staten Island on Thursday, October 7, 2017, for knocking out an NYPD traffic agent.
27-year-old Divon Cochrane was charged with two counts of assault and one of harassment according to police.
CBS News reports that Cochrane was caught on a surveillance video punching the traffic agent.
The 50-year-old agent was attacked from the behind when Cochrane punched him in the throat. He immediately fell to the ground unconscious. He was rushed to a nearby hospital soon after where he sustained injuries to his head and neck.
According to witnesses, the attack may have been due to a parking ticket that the suspect received.
“I’ve never seen something like this in my life, “said Kevin Razzoli in an interview with CBS news.
Witnesses are also upset about the incident. “Why hurt somebody who’s trying to enforce the law?” asked Razzoli. “We are all in shock,” added Andrea Diaz.
Police say that the suspect was given a summons earlier that day, but aren’t sure if there was a previous dispute.
