Once again President Donald Trump has landed himself in headlines about his conduct at the United Nations meeting this week.

What has he done this time? President Trump thanked the leaders of multiple African nations for making his friends rich.

At a luncheon that featured the heads of many countries, Trump said, “I’ve so many friends going to your countries, trying to get rich. I congratulate you. They’re spending a lot of money.”

The president was met with silence after that statement.

Trump hosted the luncheon which had the leaders of 54 countries out of the continent of Africa. With that many people and no applause for his remarks, it’s not hard to tell that these leaders were not very pleased.

In the past, both America and Europe didn’t have a very good relationship with the country. From stealing the countries resources like diamonds to slavery and forced labor the line of communication over time ceased to exist.

However, the United States has shown good faith since then by supporting different authoritarian regimes on the continent.

According to a CNBC article, since Trump took office, he’s only had ambassadors sent out to about a dozen African countries.

If his first comment wasn’t enough, the President also mispronounced the county name of Namibia. Instead, he said, “Nambia.” He stated, “ Nambia’s health system is increasingly self-sufficient.”
