It’s another love game for Serena Williams: She is pregnant — and, based on the timeline she offered, she already was when she won the Australian Open.

A spokeswoman for Williams, Kelly Bush Novak, wrote in an email to The Associated Press on Wednesday: “I’m happy to confirm Serena is expecting a baby this Fall.”

Earlier in the day, Williams posted a photo of herself on Snapchat with the caption “20 weeks,” sparking all sorts of speculation on social media about whether she was, indeed, with child.

The 35-year-old Williams won her 23rd Grand Slam singles title at the Australian Open in January — a little less than 12 weeks ago. She has not competed since, citing a knee injury when withdrawing from tournaments at Indian Wells, California, and Key Biscayne, Florida.

She announced in late December that she was engaged to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Williams would appear to be out for the rest of this tennis season, a blow to a sport in which she is an unqualified star — and, of course, something that makes major titles easier to come by for other competitors. The next major tournament is the French Open, which starts on May 28. Wimbledon begins in early July, and the U.S. Open in late August.

There is recent precedent for tennis players to return to action after becoming a mother. Kim Clijsters retired briefly to start a family, then came back to action and won Grand Slam titles. Another former No. 1 and major champion, Victoria Azarenka, has announced she’ll be getting back on tour soon after having a baby.

Williams’ 23 Grand Slam singles titles are a record for the Open era, which began in 1968 — she broke a tie with Steffi Graf in Australia. Only one woman has won more: Margaret Smith Court, who claimed part of her 24 during the amateur era.

And I also find it strange that no one has ever seen her with this random white boy until she announced her engagement. Like I said she just wanted a baby with a white man!

  2. Sarah since your prophecy come true why not prophesy they will be happy?
God is our judge not each other
I am happy if Serena is happy
If she had waited you would say she put her career before family
Why don ‘t you go after the record?

Sad how blacks let the white mans lies get under their skin. They gonna keep doing what they do. The devil is a lie. Pray for peace self love success for Serena.

I will be praying for each and everyone of you who has left a negative comment about this woman. May God continue to bless her and her family. Too much hate in this world.

  5. Congratulations to Serena Williams, the father, & the entire family! Babies are God’s blessings. I’m sure you will be a wonderful mother!

  6. You’ll are so sad for hating on Serena like that. It really don’t make a difference what either of their colors are. She is happy for herself and her baby bump and so I’m I. Congratulations girl.

DANG!!!! I wanted her to break Margaret Court’s record first. That means I won’t see her again til 2018. I know they are saying that other players have come back and won slams after having a child. But how many of them have do so at 36-37 yrs old???? DAMN! DAMN! DAMN!

Wow, I so wanted her to go ahead of Margaret Court and then retire from the sport. I have a hard time believing that she will be able to come back after having her baby. Miracles do happen and just maybe she will have a few more good tournaments left in her but I kind of doubt it. It would be great to see Venus get some more majors. I will not be as in tuned to tennis as I was when Sarena was playing unless Venus is winning. I keep waiting for Madison Keys to step up as well.

I agree with you, Meshaun. I wish she had passed Margaret Courts record first, retired, then had a baby and/or got married (which ever she chose to do first). It may have been easier to have a baby after age 35 than have a baby and try to get back in shape and try to beat Margaret Courts record. Who knows, maybe she doesn’t care about tennis anymore. I’m really sad I won’t see her play this year, and maybe never again. Tennis won’t be the same without Serena Williams. You can believe that!

Sarah, you’re exactly right this relationship won’t last. Serena has never held a steady relationship. I honestly don’t think they’re really engaged or have any real plans on ever getting married. She has baby fever following in the footsteps of her friends Kim, and Beyoncé and she wanted a baby by a white man and obviously any white man will do.

Sorry but they look odd on so many levels and I do not see the “chemistry” between them. I will be shocked if they still get married; and if they do get married if it last more than 2 or 3 years. I said the same about Janet and look, I was right.

Sad….SMH…She couldn’t wait to get knocked up by that white man so she could breed all of that black self hatred out of her genes by making a biracial child…I guses the white folk on social media calling her ugly, man looking & gorilla really did a number on her she obviously believed it. But what happens after she gives birth to this mix baby & it doesn’t cure the insecurity & self hate.

    • I very seldom reply to your posts, because you’re so ridiculous. However, sometimes you just have to try and help even the lowest of the low, when you think you can do some good. So, here goes. My advice to you Peter, is to let go of the jealousy and anger. You’ve already began to rot from the inside out, but this rabid envy and jealousy of people who have accomplished things beyond what you will never be able to even start to comprehend will surely cause the decay to spread faster. There. Now I’ve done my good deed for the day. Everyone should try to rescue at least one animal in their lifetime. One check off my bucket list.
