Prison time can be rough on a marriage. The woes of former Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. and his wife, Sandi Jackson, continue, although both have finished their respective jail sentences. The Chicago Tribune reports that Jackson, Jr. has filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage.

Via The Chicago Tribune:

Jackson Jr., 51, cited in the filing irreconcilable differences after 25 years of marriage. He requests that the couple’s two children, age 16 and 12, “reside with him, subject to Sandi’s exercise of reasonable parenting time.”

His attorney could not be reached for comment Monday evening.

The Jacksons were a Democratic power couple until being brought down by a federal investigation that led to convictions and prison time for both.

He was found guilty of looting about $750,000 from his federal campaign treasury, spending the money on vacations, furs, celebrity memorabilia and two mounted elk heads, among other things.

Sandi Jackson left a federal prison camp in West Virginia in September, where she had been serving a one-year sentence for filing false income tax returns. She began her prison sentence after her husband finished serving 22 months of a 30-month sentence.

Jackson Jr. was in Congress from 1995 until he quit in 2012 amid the criminal investigation and treatment for bipolar disorder and depression. He is the son of civil rights leader the Rev. Jesse Jackson.

Sandi Jackson was Chicago’s 7th Ward alderman from 2007 until she resigned in 2013.

He wants that white *itch that got him in trouble so he can lick her funky $ss. Just another dumb *igga. She better off without him.

  2. Jesse Jackson Jr learned from his father, father jesse was a crook, cheated on his wife, had a child with another woman. These two men do not deserves decent women, i feel sorry for his children, if he has a son i hope he do not follow in his father footsteps like jesse jr did.

  3. So now that he has had to raise the children alone while his wife was in jail for a year after he served 22 months he has decided he does not need her after all and is kicking her to the curb and keeping her kids. With friends like these who needs enemies?

  4. Jackson is a total disgrace, and embarrassment….just like Kwame Kilpatrick. Jackson Jr should have received more time to set an example for the nonsense that (some) politicians do (of all ethnicities…….a crook, is a crook, is a crook). He probably only wants custody of the kids so he won’t have to pay child support. He gets no empathy here.

I wouldn’t jump to conclusions about the why he wants custody of the children. Exactly what does “subject to Sandi exercising reasonable parenting time” mean? Since when does a mother have to “find time” to parent? Sounds like she’s not the best thing for those kids either. I wouldn’t judge before I found out the facts. It’s possible she worse than he is in some ways.

I hope they both have learned something from this ordeal. It would be nice if both could tell their stories to the younger generation. This would be a learning experience.

    • Fall: A learning experience?? Sounds good on paper; (not all) but (a lot) of young people you can’t tell anything. They think they know it all……just like most people do when they’re young. Sometimes wisdom comes with age……and sometimes wisdom never comes. In short…..we would think J Jr. would have learned from his father’s (Jessie Sr) mistakes that were put on public display. But it appears J Jr didn’t learn a darn thing. Just sayin’
