“Slice,” a scripted film starring Chance the Rapper, will arrive in theaters from production company A24 during the second half of 2017, the company announced Monday.

The film, shot secretly in Chicago over the summer, according to Variety, was written and directed by Austin Vesely, who helmed Chance’s videos for “Sunday Candy” and “Angels.” The story takes place in a mysterious city and centers around an enigmatic outlaw (Chance) framed for a killing spree that targets unsuspecting pizza delivery boys.

In an interview last year, Vesely told Red Eye Chicago that Chance plays a werewolf named Dax Lycander who is a former Chinese food delivery driver.

“Basically, these murders start happening and they hearken back to an incident that happened with him years before, and they arouse the town’s suspicions,” he said.

Chance, born Chancellor Johnathan Bennett, was raised in Chicago and began blowing up after the release of his mixtape “Acid Rap.” He’s been vocal in Chicago’s anti-gun violence efforts and promoted the “#SaveChicago” campaign in 2014, which sought to halt gun violence over Memorial Day Weekend that year.

A24 released the Oscar nominated film “Room” and the Amy Winehouse documentary “Amy” last year.

The company recently released Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight,” which has performed strongly in its initial two weeks of release.
