Wow! What a crappy feeling it must’ve been for Katrina Bookman. You know, that feeling you get when you’re told you actually did NOT win $43 MILLION because the slot machine that said you won was malfunctioning. Or so the casino says.

“I kept thinking about my family,” Bookman said.

That’s just about all Katrina Bookman could say when her thoughts turn to what happened back in August at Resorts World Casino in New York.

She already earmarked the millions to buy a barbershop for her son and a big chunk that would be given back to her community.

When she THOUGHT she hit the jackpot, Bookman’s partner captured the casino chaos on video. She was surrounded by customers, casino personnel and security.

As she was being escorted off the casino floor, she just knew she was “in the money.” She probably didn’t think anything of it when she was told to come back the next day for the decision, reports ABC7.

“I said what did I win? (The casino representative said,) ‘You didn’t win nothing,’” she recalled.

Bookman said the only thing the casino offered her was a steak dinner.

The New York State Gaming Commission said Bookman’s slot machine malfunctioned. “Malfunctions void all pays and plays,” a warning states on all the slot machines in the casino.

“They win and the house doesn’t want to pay out. To me that’s unfair,” Alan Ripka, Bookman’s attorney said.

Ripka and Bookman believe she should win the maximum allowed on the Sphinx machine, which the casino said is $6,500.

“The machine takes your money when you lose. It ought to pay it when you win,” Ripka stated.

“I feel I should win the max and I will treat him to a steak dinner,” Bookman said.

According to the gaming commission, the casino could not legally award the max pay-out.

The gaming commission said Bookman was only entitled to her winnings: just $2.25.

The slot machine was pulled immediately after the incident, fixed, and put back out on the casino floor, according to the gaming commission.

Bookman plans to sue the casino.

  1. As in the movie “Walking Tall” a casino is a licence to print money. However if a 50 ton malfunctions and falls causing millions in damage on it was down, proved not operator error insurance pays, am i wrong? If a casino uses the word MALFUNCTION it denies itself of all responsibly! Come on Man! It is hard to believe that a casino obviously knows a machine can malfunction at any time and some times not even be aware of it, can continually take the operators money. Kind of fraudulent isn’t.

All 43m belongs to her..It’s about Luck..We don’t gamble asking about the rules first, that’s there problem for that type of business..they are a Insured..GET YOUR MONEY!!

  3. How can a machine payout 43 million if there is not a combination of symbols equal to that amount of money? It is not a progressive machine. She would only be entitled to the max of 6,500 if #1 She had the max bet in & #2 If she even had the combination that would spit out a 6,500 win. If not both of those things she is entitled to nothing but the amount of money the spin created. Which was probably the 2.85

    • Are we sure this wasn’t a Trump casino? Ripping people off is his specialty whether they are contractors he refuses to pay or people whom he ripped of through his Trump university scam.

  4. She should definitely sue the Resort. This seem to sound very crooklish to me, and to offer the client a Steak Dinnr is an insult. Get an attorney and get down to business with them. They would not do that if you looked different.

This is so funny I can’t even leave a comment, well just one,the machine malfunctioned, was she at the taj Mahal, oops that closed a few weeks ago, thats all the casino probably had in the valt, and they had to make payroll for its employees, they gotta have a malfunction payout,i say half the pay,21.5 million out of court.

  6. Bookman was quoted as saying, “A steak dinner, HELL to the NAW. Now if they was talking some Colonel Sanders original recipe, we wouldn’t be talking right now.”

Unless $6500 shows somewhere on the machine IN PLAIN SITE that $6500 is the max payout, she should get the $43M. How does she or anyone else know, this could be just a reason not to pay her period. They don’t mind taking more than $6500 of your money. A steak dinner my ass. Sue their shady asses for the max allowable.

    • It does not have to show in plain sight. Some machines you would have to do the math yourself. If the biggest symbol on the slot machine paid 200 credits for a 5 of a kind & there are 20 lines & you bet 10 times yoyr bet how the f**k does that amount to 43 million?

  8. SUE….. Get a great lawyer… be willing to pay at least 1/3 your winnings. The bigger the profile… the bigger the payoff…..

  9. That is not her problem. She gets what the machine say she win. If she sue, she will win even if she does not get the whole 43 million. IF that is the case, then all lotteries and casino can avoid paying people who hit by saying “the machine” messed up.. This is why the lottery reveals who and where a lottery is won because they do not want people to think the game is “set up”.

  10. Funny how whenever it is a person of color in the casino’s at the slots how the machine suddenly has a “malfunction.”

This would often occur in CHUMP’s now bankrupt casinos in AC. He made sure no people of color EVER WON ANY BIG JACKPOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Offering this woman a mere steak dinner is equal to throwing a dog a bone!!!!!!!!!

    • Yeah the machines have face recognition software and are programmed not to payout when as black person is playing. The depths of your ignorance is just mind boggling L (Linda).
If you are on welfare and contribute zero to our economy, you should not be allowed to vote.

      • You mean the same zero contributed in taxes paid from the orange hitler? Or like the zero he pays to his debtors when he filed bankruptcy 6 times?

  11. Story’s like this are not that uncommon I remember hearing about a woman in Vagas thought she won $10 million but the same thing happened to her (they don’t call them One Armed Bandits for nothing)

  12. The Truth on said:

She is entitled to the Max payout of the machine payout. If the machine malfunction that’s Not her problem. She triggered the jackpot. She should also get extra money for mental anguish with his smart and nasty remarks. You put yourself in her shoes. They have No problem when you are feeding those machine and losing. I hope she has a Great lawyer.

    • who said she triggered the jackpot? Did the symbols line up & did she have max bet in to trigger the jackpot? Im thinking absolutely not. Her last spin amounted to 2.85. Does not matter what the mumbo jumbo said on the screen. It was a malfunction.

  13. Mac Ben on said:

Ok. The Gaming Commission opined that she did not win and the casino has the machined marked as such about malfunctions….the max pay out on that machine was only $6,500 so it is impossible to win $43 Million! However, her attorney made a valid point about the casino continued to take in money on that malfuntioning machine. Perhaps they should pay out a greater portion of that $6,500.
