R. Kelly heard about the death of two young siblings from a fire in Kankakee, Illinois and decided to donate money toward their funeral costs.

Four-year-old Justice Stewart and 2-year-old Ju’shaun Watson died after being injured in a fire on April 13.

According to Kankakee’s Daily-Journal, R. Kelly donated $5,000 toward costs of the funeral:

“It’s part of the foundation’s mission to help people in need, uplift their spirits and make the world a better place,” Kelly’s lawyer, Linda Mensch, said. “He was so heartbroken to hear about that fire.”

Kelly made the donation after his tour manager, Kevin Gyles, who grew up in Kankakee, told him about the tragic fire.

“He just said to take care of the funeral costs,” Gyles said. “He does all his charity work from the heart.”

A homeless man was arrested and charged for setting the fire, which also injured eight other people. Alex A. Sawyer, 61, is facing two counts of murder and eight counts of aggravated arson.
