One thing MC Hammer can’t escape: money problems. When his breakout hit “U Can’t Touch This” was rocking the airwaves, MC Hammer became notorious for having a huge entourage and an army of dancers. Unbeknownst to the general public, Hammer’s massive entourage was costing him a whopping $500,000 a month to maintain.
Yes, $500,000 a month to have your friends get on your nerves.
Eventually, Hammer filed for bankruptcy, but the IRS isn’t letting him get off that easy. Apparently, Hammer’s bankruptcy judgement only covered 1993, 1994, and 1995. The “2 Legit 2 Quit” rapper still owes almost $800,000 worth of taxes from 1996 and 1997.
In 2012, the IRS sued MC Hammer to get their money, and after an appeals court ruled against him, it seems he’ll actually have to pay taxes from 20 years ago.
In a statement released to Bossip, Hammer said, “To come back after the fact and assert claims after millions of dollars have been paid out by creditors from which these claims have been paid in full, is the misconduct the USA committed.”
Welp, looks like Hammer will have to hit the road to gather up the coins he needs to be debt free in 2016.
