You can now add “Sportsperson of the Year” to Serena William‘s long list of accolades.

The dominating tennis star landed the huge honor and the cover of the sports mag after falling short of a Grand Slam (winning all four major titles in one year). Williams won the Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon before losing at the U.S. Open.  The near sweep of the season’s major titles left Serena with 21 major singles titles, third most overall. Boom!

Williams took to Instagram to celebrate, writing:

This year was spectacular for me. For @SportsIllustrated to recognize my hard work, my dedication, and my sheer determination gives me hope to continue on and do better. As I always say, it takes a village it’s not just one person. This is not just an accomplishment for me, but for my whole team. I am beyond honored. I love you guys! 2016? #letsdoit

Congratulations Serena! Now that is #BlackGirlMagic!

  1. Serena and Venus Williams are the only reason why I started watching and playing the sport again. I hated it because others always played it very slowly, and then the sistah’s came around with those 100 mph serves, and volleys!!!! Just love it, it’s the way it’s supposed to be played, with sweat and tears, and emotional. I hung up my racquet ball racket, and picked up my tennis racket. Thanks sistah’s, and CONGRATS TO SERENA, definitely deserved, and wayyyyyy OVERDUE!!!

A few acronyms come to mind when I look at this photo and I hate to think of such a talented and bright young woman in that way.

Congrats on being the “sportsperson of the year” she definitely earned it. As for the cover, can’t say I love it or even like it.
