Move over Tinder, there’s a new app on the market and it caters to the Black community. BAE (Before Anyone Else) was created by three young Black men: Brian Gerrad, Justin Gerrad and Jordan Kunzika who set out make ‘dating fun again.’

‘BAE was created because we wanted to make an app for people who look like us (Black folks) to chat, meet and date,’ they said in a candid chat. ‘We knew the other social/dating apps out there weren’t created with us in mind.’

You may be thinking, why the name BAE? The boys have a simple answer. ‘BAE gives you the advantage to find someone you’d be interested in ‘before anyone else.’

Similar to Tinder, BAE uses the swipe method to engage users. ‘Just swipe left if you are not interested in someone, and swipe right if you are.’ Sounds easy. ‘First time users have unlimited swipes until they get their first match so we can understand what type of guys/girls interest them. After that, users have 30 right swipes and unlimited left swipes.’

(Trick of the trade: The best way to get a match is to add at least four photos of yourself.)

‘We send you potential BAEs based on how you use the app with our custom algorithm.  Besides having a great product to connect users with people they would never meet otherwise, BAE is different because it was made especially for people of color.  On other mass market dating apps Black people are 10 times less likely to receive a message than any other race.’

To compliment the app, Brian, Justin and Jordan host dating events to connect singles looking for love.

‘We try to throw events as often as possible.  It is great to see people matching and connecting on the app, and it is even better when they use our events to meet those matches in person.’

Bae (Before Anyone Else) teamed up with Mr. Alist of A-List Entertainment for a series of upcoming mixers in NYC for singles. #BaeThankful a Thanksgiving Eve Celebration hosted by VH!’s LaLa Full Court Life’s Po Johnson will be the first of many.
