Meet Meredith Evans, the new director of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum.

The reports:

She assumes the role Nov. 29. Prior to joining the Carter library, she oversaw the Washington University Department of Special Collections in St. Louis.

Evans earned her master’s degree at Clark Atlanta University, was curator of printed materials at Atlanta University Center’s library and participated on an Andrew W. Mellon Foundation-funded project to process and digitize the papers and books of Martin Luther King Jr.

Previously, she also has held senior leadership positions at George Washington University and the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She taught library science courses at several universities, including Clark Atlanta University, and recently published “Modern Special Collections: Embracing the Future While Taking Care of the Past” in which she discusses the strategic thinking needed to ensure the history and cultural memory reflected in collections.

Congratulations Ms. Evans. We salute you!
