Dear Tom,

Our mom raised 4 kids by herself as a single mom – 2 boys and 2 girls.  There were times that she worked two jobs so we would never have to go without whatever we needed.

We are all grown up now – Brian is 32, Daniel is 26 and we are 30 & 31.  We have all blessed her with 12 grandchildren that she just loves: Alisha, Anthony, Chantavia, Corey, Daniel, Darren, Dentel, Gary, Gabrielle, Jonathon, Lauren & Teresa.

Our mom is so selfless, that if she can help someone…she will.  People going through tough times have lived with us until they are able to get back on their feet.  She offers an open door, a pillow for their head and a meal at the table.

She just loves to cook – so much that every Sunday, people call her up to see what momma’s cooking and if they can get a plate – the answer is always yes…and with thanksgiving just two weeks away, she has already finalized the menu!

Our mom also helps people by giving them moral support and driving those places but she rarely does anything for herself.

She doesn’t know we wrote this so it will be a big surprise!

Her 50th birthday was on august 1st.  We planned on taking her out of town but the plans fell through.  So we made her t-shirt that read “queen of fifty” and took her out to eat.

We don’t know what she would do if she won but we are sure it will put a big smile on her face.

My mom has had a tough life and she used to do chores at 6 years old. She’s a hard working black women who gives what she doesn’t even have. She is always telling me how she wants to move to Arizona and have a new life. And I wanted to make that happen for her.
