Though there is no shame in her game, age does have a way of catching up with you at the darnedest times.

I’m trying to read the mind of Doris Payne, the 85-year-old African American self-proclaimed international jewel thief and subject of the 2013 documentary, The Life and Crimes of Doris Payne. She was just arrested in the Buckhead section of Atlanta for slipping a pair of earrings in her pockets and politely walking out of the store.

But the moisture in those slippery fingers have apparently dried up because over her 60-year-heist-history, Payne has gotten away with so much more. So at this point she must be thinking, what the hell??

According to what police told WSB-TV late Monday, Payne was caught on camera as she put a $690 pair of Christian Dior earrings in her pocket at an Atlanta Saks Fifth Avenue store in the Phipps Plaza Shopping Center and walked out. She was arrested this past Friday.

According to Fulton County inmate records she was booked on theft by shoplifting.

The one-time star of her own movie gained notoriety when she lifted a 10-1/2 carat diamond years ago in Monte Carlo. But even more recent than this, she was linked to the theft of a $33,000 diamond studded ring in the Charlotte, N.C. area.

According to what Payne’s attorney told the TV station, his client is suffering from health conditions, but she is still in good spirits.

Atlanta police sergeant, Warren Pickard, told the station, “I think these officers just thought it was a run of the mill shoplifting. They took the woman into custody and, a short time thereafter, they got notice that another jurisdiction had a warrant for her and she was an international thief.”

Though actress Halle Berry was once connected to the film, her version never manifested.
