A shooting that left one person dead at Tennessee State University started after an apparent dispute over a dice game, police have said.

CNN.com reports:

Two others were injured in the shooting at an outdoor courtyard at the campus in Nashville. They were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, said Kelli Sharpe, a university spokeswoman.

The wounded are students, but their names have not been released pending their families’ notification, she said.

The incident occurred during a student gathering in which two men not enrolled at the university may have been gambling, according to Sharpe.

Both men exchanged gunfire, and one was killed, she said.

  1. Unfortunately another senseless act has occurred N NO….HBCU are not the only danger spot….but now I think it’s just time to do the –if you see something say something mentality.
Just know this. …..the colleges or locations are not bad, People are not bad….they just make bad choices. Unfortunately this choice ended in a shooting N death of a young life…
Hope retribution in terms of a capture is made….the family is in my thoughts

Praying for the families and staff. We have a child attending a HBCU and I’m always nervous when they are out and about. People are crazy and have no respect for life. I understand why some campuses don’t allow none students on campus. Praying that this nonsense STOPS

Joy are you inferring that HBCU’s are less safe than “other” schools?? From what I’ve witnessed MANY colleges are located in questionable areas once you leave the campuses, HBCU’s & traditional … not attacking you, just wondering the significance of stating your child attends an HBCU as if that means they’re more in danger … or maybe i looked too hard into what you ment … *shrugs*

My parents were concerned about me being away from home for the first time when I went away to college because I had been “sheltered,” but now parents have to be concerned about their child being killed. I’ll never understand.
