Erykah Badu will host this year’s Soul Train Awards, which will air on Centric and BET Nov. 29, and we’re hoping Ms. Badu will perform her hot remix of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” during the event.
Centric Network announced that it will honor Jill Scott and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds at this year’s show. Edmonds will receive the Legend Award, and Scott will accept the first-ever Lady of Soul Award.
As The Wrap notes, Edmonds has won 11 Grammy Awards and written and produced 26 No. 1 R&B hits. His new album, “Return of the Tender Lover,” will be released on December 4.
Scott is a three-time Grammy winner, critically acclaimed actress and New York Times best-selling poet.
According to Centric, “both artists are being recognized for their presence in the industry and their influence on the world of music – past and present.”
Bruno Mars, The Weeknd and Mark Ronson have the most nominations, with five each. Beyonce, Chris Brown, Jidenna and Tyrese follow with four mentions each. Check out the complete list of Soul Train nominees here.
Soul Train Awards 2015 will be filmed Friday, Nov. 6 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas and will air simultaneously on Centric and BET on Sunday, Nov. 29 at 8 p.m. EST.
Earlier this month, Erykah dropped a stunning remix of “Hotline Bling,” which was co-written by her and Andre 3000’s son, Seven Benjamin, and it certainly has her fans hype for her upcoming mixtape, “BUT U CAINT USE MY PHONE.”
Unlike Drake’s version, Badu’s includes instructions on when and how to call her. Example: “If you’re calling to beg for some sh*t in general, press 4.” “If you’re calling to ask for some free tickets in a city near you, and know she don’t really f*ck with you like that, press 7.”
Erykah Badu has yet to announce the date her hotly anticipated mixtape will drop, but she remains active on social media with music news and performance updates, so stay tuned.
