WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama will take steps to improve doctor training and ease access to drug treatment as part of an effort to help communities battling the scourge of heroin and prescription painkiller abuse.

A White House official says Obama will detail the moves Wednesday on a day trip to Charleston, West Virginia. Obama is due to meet with law enforcement officials, drug counselors and advocates at a community center.

West Virginia has the highest rate of overdose deaths in the U.S. — more than twice the national average. That’s according to a report by the Trust for America’s Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Nationally, the number of people who reported using heroin within the past year almost doubled from 2002 to 2013.

  1. jhuf*–FYI the Prez is not releasing all drug dealers-just those who received a long sentence for merely possessing Pot.

Although people of color and White folks both smoke Cannabis on an equal level, young men of color are being busted and sent to jail for having less than an ounce or even a joint in their possession.
This has been done intentionally by a corrupt/UNJUST SYSTEM!!!!!!

    • yeah well I guess that BAW article on the early released career drug dealing criminal wanted for killing that cop probably wasn’t one of them

  2. OK so there is an escalating problem with heroin use and he’s releasing drug dealers from federal prisons? Kind of like complaining about house burglary’s but leaving your house unlocked

  3. While the Prez is at it, he also needs to address the decriminalization/legalization of Cannabis!!!
Weed is less harmful than smack!!!!!
