Social media users were critical in August when Marie Holmes, 26, of Wilmington, North Carolina paid $9 million to twice bail out her fiancé, Lamarr (Hot Sauce) McDow, from jail.
But now they are downright indignant after learning that McDow has landed in jail again, wondering aloud if Holmes, a single mother of four whose brood includes a special needs child, paid for his bail again.
McDow was arrested Monday for possession of a firearm by a felon, and was released soon after on $10,000 bail, according to The New York Daily News. It is unclear how his bail was paid, but Twitter was outraged by the latest arrest.
At a news conference when her winnings were announced, Holmes said she wanted “to use the cash to finish college and set up tuition funds for her four children.” Now, she’s facing heavy criticism for using her money on a troubled loved one.
First of all, Holmes is not emblematic of Black women, who are not a monolith. But do you think it’s fair that Twitter is being so hard on Holmes? After all, what she does with her money is none of our business.
