People is reporting that Lamar Odom is showing signs of recovery. His aunt and other sources confirmed that the former NBA star woke up over the weekend.
It’s been reported as well that he is off a ventilator though he is still on an oxygen mask and that he passed a “swallow” test that indicates that he can breathe on his own. He reportedly asked for his kids and told not quite ex-wife Khloe Kardashian “Hey baby.” People.com reports that Khloe, her best friend Malika Haqq and various Kardashian family members along with Odom’s ex-girlfriend Liza Morales and his children Lamar, Jr. and Destiny are still in Las Vegas.
While Lamar Odom continues to recover from his medical crisis last week, estranged wife Khloé Kardashian “won’t leave his side,” a source tells PEOPLE.
“She wants to be there so that whenever he opens his eyes, he sees her,” the source says.
Kardashian, 31, “is happy he is off the ventilator and is breathing on his own, but she is still scared and still concerned,” a family source also tells PEOPLE. “He’s woken up and his heart is stronger, but there is still concern about his organs.”
Both sources confirm that Odom, 35, is no longer on a ventilator. “Things are looking brighter,” the family source says.
But Odom has not been texting, the source says.
He has been able to talk, though it’s unclear how much, the family source says: “I think it’s minimal.”

LAS VEGAS (AP) — The latest on the hospitalization of Lamar Odom, who was found unconscious Tuesday in a Nevada brothel (all times local):
12:30 p.m.
A spokeswoman for Lamar Odom’s aunt says the NBA star woke up and spoke three days after being found unconscious at a Nevada brothel.
Alvina Alston, publicist for JaNean Mercer, Odom’s maternal aunt and godmother, said that Odom spoke a greeting and gave a thumbs-up Friday morning, his first communication since being hospitalized.
Odom has been unconscious at a Las Vegas hospital since being found Tuesday at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada.
Alston said Mercer is the sister of Odom’s late mother who helped raise him in New York, where she still lives. Mercer and other family members, including estranged wife Khloe Kardashian, are in Las Vegas at the hospital.

Lamar Odom’s aunt and godmother is thanking the public for its support after the NBA star was found unconscious at a Nevada brothel.
Publicist Alvina Alston issued a statement Friday on behalf of JaNean Mercer, Odom’s maternal aunt and godmother.
The statement said in part: “No words can express the overwhelming gratitude we feel for the outpouring of support from around the world.”
Alston said Mercer is the sister of Odom’s late mother who helped raise him in New York, where she still lives. Mercer and other family members, including estranged wife Khloe Kardashian, are now in Las Vegas.
The statement says, “His complete healing is paramount and our primary focus.”
Odom remains hospitalized in Las Vegas after being found unconscious Tuesday at the Love Ranch brothel in Crystal, Nevada.

Khloe Kardashian said her family won’t be posting content online while attending to estranged husband Lamar Odom’s health crisis after he was found unconscious Tuesday at the Love Ranch brothel in Nevada.
Kardashian’s rep confirmed Friday that the message on the reality TV star’s official app was posted by the family.
It read: “As a family, we’ve decided to hold off on publishing content across our apps while we continue to support and pray for Lamar.”
The message was addressed to fans as a note from Kardashian. The blog-like app offers first-person postings with photos and advice.
Announcing a posting black-out is a rarity for the family, who meticulously document their lives on various social media channels and the “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” show.
Odom is hospitalized in Las Vegas.
