Cons

1. Lifespan: Though some brave divas make an attempt to wear their synthetic hair for longer periods of time, the unfortunate truth is that this type of hair is not meant to be anything but temporary. Synthetic hair and wigs worn on a consistent basis really don’t look great after a few weeks. In fact, if it is worn beyond its intended lifetime, it can begin to look extremely matted and unflattering.

2. No Versatility: Synthetic hair is meant to be worn in the style you bought it in. There is no real customization to it. If you wanted burgundy hair, then you need to buy it in that color. If you want a body wave, you need to buy it in that texture. Synthetic hair is made of plastic fibers that can’t withstand much manipulation let alone heat and chemicals. Try curling your favorite synthetic wig and you might end up with a melted mess!

3. Allergies:  Most synthetic hair is sealed with an alkaline-based coating that often leaves bargain beauties scratching for dear life. If you have sensitive skin you may find that your scalp, neck, and/or face will not agree with your choice of extensions. There are ways to treat the hair (i.e., diluted apple cider vinegar rinse), but for what you pay for it, it can be a headache to have to go through the extra steps!

So, before you decide to declare a side of the synthetic vs. human hair debate think about how maybe you shouldn’t limit yourself. The sky is the limit with your hair!
