Actor Laz Alonso has been working steadily for years. But it seems like he has a huge hit in the NBC show Mysteries of Laura that stars Debra Messing. She plays Detective Laura Diamond, a homicide detective who’s among the smartest, if not the smartest in the New York Police Department. Alonso plays Det. Billy Soto, her partner.
The show returns for its second season on NBC tonight at 8 p.m.
One of the things that distinguishes the show is that although it’s a classic police procedural, it mixes in elements of humor.
“”It’s a cool cast, we have a lot of fun together. In every scene we try to figure out where there’s a little funny to bring out and bring out the funny. For those of us that are not naturally comedic, it takes a lot of talent to bring that to life,” he says.

As far as Alonso’s love life both on and off the show, here’s what the single actor has to say.
“Let me just put it like this. Whatever you see off-camera, ain’t nothing compared to what you see on camera,” Alonso said.
