Jerrod Carmichael is an up and coming comedian who’s arrived with his own NBC sitcom The Carmichael Show premiering tomorrow, August 26th.

“I come from a really funny, really argumentative family, and that’s what the show is based around.”

The Winston, North Carolina native says that his parents are very happy about the casting choices.

My parents are crazy excited that David Alan Grier and Loretta Devine play them,” Carmichael said. ‘They’re ready to give acting tips – in case Loretta Devine or David Alan Grier needs them,” he says. “Since my father found out that David Alan Grier was playing him, he’s been like Maya Angelou. Everything he says now is like poetry and he’ll say ‘Have David say that.’

The show it set in Charlotte, North Carolina. The second episode deals with an officer shooting, something that Jerrod says is important to him personally.

“I think it gets really important really fast. I hope people watch and enjoy and take something from it,” Carmichael says.
