Hmm, one can only wonder if this is a case of Marvin Gaye’s son “smelling himself?”

We say that in light of his – and the other Marvin Gaye siblings’ – successful landmark $7 million “Blurred Lines” judgement against Robin Thicke and Pharrell … because now he’s saying that TV’s hottest show Empire is his idea and he’s planning to sue Lee Daniels  and Fox Network.

According to TMZ, Marvin Gaye III is claiming he registered a treatment on a show called Diamonds & Ballads aka Those Sons of Riches! with the Writers Guild of America back in 2010.

He goes on to describe  the treatment  this way: “a music based ‘Black’ and ‘hip’ version of Dynasty … with a little Sopranos.’” We’re told Gaye shopped the treatment around to TV execs and said it was loosely based on the lives of his legendary family and the Berry Gordy family.

Gaye insists the people in the industry with whom Lee Daniels associates received emails pitching his treatment.

And Gaye feels Daniels unwittingly fessed up in 2014 after Empire hit big, when he said, “I wanted to make a black Dynasty.” He also said it was similar to The Sopranos.

So, is Marvin Gaye III smelling himself or smelling blood and is going in for the kill by filing a lawsuit against Daniels, Fox and “others?”

That would be a big YES, according to his attorney who also passed along this little nugget to TMZ:

“We understand that three things can’t be hidden for long: the Sun, the Moon and the Truth!”

Unfortunately Marvin Gaye’s children have no talent and they are going around trying to get money in any way they can ! They need to go away now ! Enough of those losers ! They don’t even look like they could even be his children because they lack talent
It certainly didn’t rub off n any of them .

  2. I feel that if this were truly his story, why is he just now coming forth, shouldn’t he have come after the maybe first 2 episodes? I think he felt that after he won that other lawsuit, he feels why not just keep it going??? What he and the rest of his family should do is go and climb under a rock…and let Marvin rest in peace.

If Marvin Gaye’s son did pitch this idea and it was stolen, he should be compensated. Are we supposed to ignore when we have been taken advantage of and just say it was just in a day’s work. Absolutely not! If this is true, fight Marvin and get your rightful recognition. Don’t listen to what the naysayers say. Do what you have to do and I will be praying for you that what you say is the truth and it will be revealed.

Eunice I’m simply saying why did he wait so long? If it was his idea why not file a suit in the 2nd or 3rd episode instead of waiting to see if it was going to be a success? Who has even heard of Marvin Gaye’s son doing anything period? Not me except file lawsuits. Everyone wants a piece of the pie and I just don’t believe this was his idea

Totally agree BrnBlesed, no mention of any law suits for “wayward pines” (T Howard on Fox), know why? It wasn’t successful probably cancelled by now. Please….these lawsuits are so ridiculous. It’s funny tho, no lawsuits for DWTS, America Idol, Scandal, or none of the other hugely successful shows, why this one and from our own “skin folks”.

Give me a damn break!!!! Everybody and their sons want a piece of Empire because of it’s popularity If the show wasn’t successful I wonder how many would have such claims…I’m betting none…get yur greedy asses somewhere and sit down!!!!

    • I so agree with u. The thirst is real. Marvin Gaye’s son need to sit down. If his movie pitch was that great someone would’ve snatched it up! Be satisfied with your daddy’s money from that ridiculous lawsuit and chill out. You’re giving your dad’s name a bad rap!
