There’s a new entry in the crowded sports docuseries arena. DeSean Jackson: Home Team featuring Washington Washington Football Team receiver DeSean Jackson, debuts on Tuesday, June 30th at 8:30 p.m. on BET.

The docu-series/reality show will chronicle Jackson’s busy life as an  NFL player, music artist, film producer, fashion label owner, music producer and label owner. The person behind the flourish and swagger of Jackson’s show is his big brother, Byron Jackson.

Byron, a practice-squad player on the Kansas City Chiefs before becoming a filmmaker, has been pitching this idea for a few years. In 2013 Byron released a documentary, DeSean Jackson: The Making of a Father’s Dream about his brother’s life, his defining relationship with their late father, Bill Jackson, and his rise to fame. Byron says he has been recording DeSean all of his life, because the footage “would be needed someday.” That day has come.

With all of the money and fame come misperceptions, from reports of California-born DeSean being gang affiliated to his attitude. Byron hopes to change all that with Home Team.

“We trained him to be fast, to have the mindset of a champion, to be a hard worker and he became it, who he is today,” Byron said when clarifying exactly who the home team consisted of; DeSean’s mother and “momager” Gayle, his sister and assistant A’Dreea, his publicist and new girlfriend Kayla and a host of friends their “dad assembled all around DeSean” from day one; Travis, Derrick Booke and Darrian, his track coach.
