Taraji P. Henson has already mentioned that her Empire character Cookie will have two new love interests next season – and one may have just been announced.
Magic Mike XXL and former CSI: Miami star Adam Rodriguez has joined the cast of the top-rated show.
Rodriguez will play “Laz Delgado,” a smooth-talking concert promoter with expert hustler skills. Laz is a native New Yorker and former EMT who takes an interest in Cookie.
The actor joins previously announced guest stars, including Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Alicia Keys, and Ne-Yo, who will work with Timbaland to create music for the show.
Rodriguez, who now recurs on NBC’s medical drama The Night Shift, will next be seen in Magic Mike XXL opposite Channing Tatum and Joe Manganiello. This will not be the first time Rodriguez has played Henson’s love interest – he also did so in the Tyler Perry movie I Can Do Bad All By Myself.
The second season of “Empire” returns Sept. 23 at 9 p.m.
