SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Home run king Barry Bonds has a place in one Hall of Fame, at least: the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.
Bonds was set to be enshrined Monday night in San Francisco alongside his former manager, Dusty Baker, late Warriors owner Franklin Mieuli, golfer Roger Maltbie and freestyle skier Jonny Moseley.
“Very honored to be inducted into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame,” Bonds posted on Twitter along with a photo of him with his two daughters.
The 50-year-old Bonds had his obstruction of justice conviction thrown out last month by a federal court of appeals. But that doesn’t necessarily mean much when it comes to his baseball legacy because steroids allegations have tarnished many of his accomplishments.
In his third year on the baseball Hall of Fame ballot, Bonds received 202 votes for 36.8 percent from the Baseball Writers’ Association of America, well short of the 75 percent needed for election.
