There wasn’t one person in their seats when Fantasia appeared on the “Black Girls Rock” stage wearing a sparkling white gown that was almost as pristine as her rendition of “Oh Mary Don’t You Weep.” Chile, Fanny had us ready to fall out right in the middle of the ceremony. We were blessed to be in attendance. *Pun intended*
The annual celebration, founded by Beverly Bond, reached new heights this year as First Lady Michelle Obama attended and gave new meaning to the line, “Black Girls Rock.”
Performances by Jill Scott, Erykah Badu, Faith Evans, Ciara and more kept us entertained in between the celebrants’ (Cicely Tyson, Jada Pinkett-Smith, Erykah Badu, Ava Duvernay, Nadia Lopez and Dr. Helene D. Gayle) inspirational speeches.
Tracee Ellis-Ross and Regina King had the most amazing chemistry and looked spectacular as they channeled their inner poet and rapper swag. And who could forget that romantic kiss Will and Jada shared on stage?
Seriously. It was a great show!
