The end of a marriage is a reality that Derek Fisher’s wife says she didn’t see coming.

Media sources report that after 10 years of marriage, Candace Fisher says she was “blindsided” when the New York Knicks head coach filed for divorce last month. The filing means the end for the Fishers, who were married in 2005. The couple has two twin 8-year-old kids, Tatum and Drew.

Signs of trouble with the Fishers came one month after they celebrated their 10th anniversary. It was then that Derek Fisher allegedly removed all of his clothing, personal items and computers from the couple’s home in New York home as well as stopped taking Candace’s calls. From there came the divorce filing, which Derek Fisher initiated on March 18.

Court documents reveal that the 40-year-old former NBA star wants to keep the twins in New York to live and attend school, despite the fact that all of their family, friends and schoolmates being located in L.A.

Fisher’s personal situation came up after the Knicks’ practice on Saturday (April 4) as he responded to questions regarding whether his issues made it more daunting during the current 14-62 season.

“I don’t think what goes on personally with guys really has anything to do with how you do your job. I’ve seen what other players and people have gone through personally, and when you come to work there’s a separation,” he told the New York Post. “Everybody goes through things. That really has nothing to do with my job. So I haven’t found it more challenging to still show up to work every day and do what I need to do. Everyone faces adversity, so it doesn’t change my approach.”
