The Baltimore Ravens could use some good news about their players and this week they got some. Lineman John Urschel, the Canadian-born Penn State grad who holds both a BA and an MA in Math, got a math paper published. Yes, we said a math paper, from a current NFL lineman. In fact, he’s had three math papers published, the latest just recently.

When her retires (he’s only 23 and in his second year) he plans on earning a Ph.D in math. Did we mention he was also a three-year captain of his track and field team at Penn State, where he did shot putt and discus?

Urshel has also written two columns for the new Derek Jeter- founded website The Players Tribune. You can check out how he applies math to real-life scenarios here or why despite his skills off the field, he won’t be making an early retirement from football.

OMG I had the most beautiful drive up to State College after a huge snow storm years ago for B1G Champs!!! It looked like the North Pole in the mountains. Sadly a Penn State coach (I heard now FIRED…KARMA) treated my buckeye like crap as a freshman (they were bottom of the conference) UNTIL the buckeye coach recruited some high school record holding Maryland state champs and has DOMINATED B1G every since!!!! Holla Coach Karen Dennis!! LOVE my Ravens (d@ I’m going to miss Torrey Smith whom I just learned my alma mater UMD tried to recruit my record holding buckeye child to replace his wifey!!!)! UMD lost so much talent to the B1G it decided to join the fun! hahahahaha
