Nelly performed at a charity concert in Northern Iraq for an annual soccer tournament in the city of Erbil hosted by the Rwanga Foundation.
According to Rwanga.org, the performance made history as Nelly is “the first American artist to perform in the city’s 8,000 year old history.”
Rumor has it Nelly was paid nicely for his appearance, but the performance was to raise money for the peshmerga, the Kurdish fighting force against ISIS.
Nelly’s agency didn’t comment on if he received any funds for his “sparsely attended” performance.
