That viral girl fight in McDonald’s in Flatbush has become one of the most shared and discussed violent clips in recent memory. One brash comment of the incident comes from Texas conservative and radio host, Michael Berry who, based on the video, fearlessly questioned whether Black people really do believe that Black lives matter.

He said,”We have people living in our country who are absolutely savages. Absolutely, positively savages. To engage in this kind of behavior.” Berry, without a bump of hesitation in his tone, continued, “You don’t need to say White lives matter. White people don’t walk up to White people, put a gun to their head and blow them away. White people don’t drive pass the homes of White people, and other Black people for that matter and shoot into the window, knowing they are children inside. White people don’t walk into a McDonald’s and four, five, six, seven, eight, 10 of them beat the snot out of somebody for minutes on end. While everybody else cheers, hoots, hollers and films it. WorldStar. You know why White lives matter? Because that’s what White people believe. The dirty little secret is, is that Black people don’t believe Black lives matter.”

He then had the audacity to reference Chris Rock‘s infamous 1996 skit “N*ggers vs. Black People,” which to this day, Rock has insinuated that he somewhat regrets that joke because racists use it to their advantage. Individuals like Berry do not fully comprehend the context of Rock’s complex language here because they are not Black and such commentary is very surface to them.

The thing with Berry’s commentary is that…he’s mainly wrong, yet we can acknowledge this. There are some Black people who do not care about other Black lives. But that also doesn’t mean that they display their non-participation in acts like what happened in that Brooklyn McDonald’s. For the Black people that have felt disenfranchised from the come-together movement are for reasons that Berry couldn’t even begin to understand and it has a lot to do with the inner-conflicts of being Black in America.

For every example of which Berry claimed White people didn’t do this and don’t that because they are not hooligans, well, we’ve got examples for all of those.

Berry says, “White people don’t walk up to White people, put a gun to their head and blow them away.”

Our answer: Chris Kyle.

Berry says, “White people don’t drive pass the homes of White people, and other Black people for that matter and shoot into the window…”

Our answer: Renisha McBride

Berry says: “White people don’t walk into a McDonald’s, and four, five, six, seven, eight, 10 of them beat the snot out of somebody for minutes on end.”

Our answer: It wasn’t McDonald’s, but what about the death of James Craig Anderson?

Berry says, “While everybody else cheers, hoots, hollers and films it. WorldStar.”

Our answer: It was a fellow White student that filmed SAE students chanting a racist song.

Berry says, “The dirty little secret is, is that Black people don’t believe Black lives matter.”

Our answer: the NAACP, a renowned organization for Black justice and excellence since 1909, and is still in effect in today.

No one comes out clean when it comes to violence in America. White people have hurt and killed White people. Black people have done the same. We’ve seen and heard this cycle too many times before, trying to break Black people down to violent savages. It took fighting teenage girls for Perry to come to his biased conclusion? We guess in his mind, the Ku Klux Klan aren’t savages because…?

Commentary like this only ever sounds legit when it comes from a person who identifies with the community. Berry looks like an outsider who thinks he knows all the answers based on a couple of viewings of Black comedians and TV shows. In reality, he’s just passing by because he can leave whenever he feels like, hence his visits to World Star. Berry doesn’t care about these girls and maybe he doesn’t care about Black lives?

No most whites who are involved in crimes often do not walk up and put a gun to another white persons head; they kill them and bury them in the backyard or in the woods and try to cover the crime up. It is still MURDER and KILLING.

Well, there are white girls who do this same thing. One group of white girls did this a few weeks ago and the mothers were there. One of the mothers was pushing the fight. I agree with Carmen. How can he take what some blacks do and label all blacks. Those blacks who fought in McDonalds and all the other stuff do NOT care about black lives, white lives, no lives; however, do not put all blacks in the same boat. Yes, black lives matter.

They should stop using the stupid degrading word period. There is nothing at all cool or good about that word, it’s has bad representation. I grew up in the 60’s my parents wouldn’t allow us to ever say/use that word.
