3 ½ Minutes, a documentary on the murder of Jordan Davis, is set to premiere on HBO.
The Marc Silver-helmed film, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival, chronicles the killing of Davis, an unarmed 17-year-old who was shot by Michael Dunn in a gas station parking lot in Florida. In addition to Davis, Dunn, a White man, fired on three of Davis’ friends. He was ultimately found guilty of Davis’ murder and convicted of three counts attempted second-degree murder and one count of firing into a vehicle.
Silver goes beyond re-telling the story behind Davis’ death to explore the events following the shooting as well as assess the American criminal justice system.
In a statement regarding 3 ½ Minutes, HBO Documentary Films president, Sheila Nivens said:
“I am grieved that these continuing stories are everyday matters swept away. By bringing this powerful film to HBO audiences, we hope to elevate the national conversation around these tragic issues.”
Although 3 ½ Minutes will premiere this fall, no official airdate has been released.
