Mike Epps will star as the lead of the “Uncle Buck” comedy pilot on ABC, which is based on the classic John Hughes film starring John Candy, according to Deadline.

Nia Long will also star in the comedy pilot as Buck’s brother Will’s strong and smart wife.

The series, from producer Will Packer, will adapt characters and the story from the film, according to publicist Staci R. Collins Jackson.

Buck Russell (Epps) takes care of his brother Will’s kids in a very childish way while he learns how to be an adult. This is the second attempt at remaking the comedy for TV. CBS tried it first in the 1990s.

But like the movie, the TV adaptation will be written by Steven Cragg and Brian Bradley. The major difference is switching the characters to African Americans.
