Tasha Thomas, girlfriend of Wal-Mart shooting victim John Crawford III, has died in a car crash. Authorities say Tasha, 26 was a passenger in a car driven by Frederick Bailey, 30 on Thursday afternoon when the car struck a pole and flipped over after traveling at speeds of up to 90-100 mph.

Both were ejected from the car, where Tasha died at the scene and Bailey soon afterwards at a local area hospital. According to ABC22, Tasha’s mother claims her daughter was getting a ride to her car by Bailey when the fatal crash occurred.

Crawford’s family attorney Michael Wright told The Guardian, “It’s just tragic. It is a sad set of circumstances continuing from what happened at Walmart.”

Thomas gained national attention August 2014, after her boyfriend Crawford, 22 was shot dead by police officers while the two were shopping at a Wal-Mart in Beavercreek, Oh. Crawford picked up an unboxed and unloaded pellet gun from a store shelf and was carrying it around while talking on his cell phone, when police responded to a 911 dispatch call from a customer who claimed Crawford was pointing the gun at customers.

The caller later recanted. But when Beavercreek police officers Sean Williams and Sgt. David Darkow reported to the scene, Darkow claimed they screamed for Crawford to get down on the floor but he made a “quick movement” to him. Williams alleged after Crawford refused to comply to his commands to drop the gun, he shot him two-times after he claims Williams came towards the officers in a “aggressive manner.”

Afterward the shooting, Thomas, the mother of Williams’ two children was interrogated by police who sought a reason to justify the shooting. She can be seen below answering questions for an hour before learning that Crawford was dead.

Despite surveillance footage contracting both officers’ statements, on Sept. 24, a grand jury declined to indict Williams and Darkow for Crawford’s death. In November, Crawford’s family filed a lawsuit against the officers along with the Beavercreek police department and Wal-Mart for the young father of two’s death.
