Kanye West has spoken. He says Idris Elba “needs to be” the next James Bond.
The rapper has backed the British actor as a future Bond after a leaked email, released as part of the recent Sony Pictures hacking scandal, appeared to confirm him as a potential 007.
West insists casting Elba would be a “visionary” move for the Bond franchise, telling Britain’s The Sun newspaper, “I know Idris a little bit and he is a big talent. When the role for James Bond comes up it needs to be his. James Bond is a role made for British actors and you won’t find a British actor who has the talent of Idris. To be honest you won’t find many anywhere who have his talent.
“Artists should be visionaries. A black James Bond would be visionary no doubt. Something that 30 years ago would have seemed crazy should now be something that is a real possibility.”
In the leaked email, Sony’s co-chairman Amy Pascal touted Elba as a 007 candidate to Elizabeth Cantillon, former executive vice president of the firm which distributes the films, simply stating, “Idris should be the next Bond.”
