Leave a comment’s “Base Level” column features the hottest new artists we’re buzzing about. Before they make it to the summit of superstardom, we spot them at base level–the beginning of their hopeful journey to the top.

DC native, Kevin Ross, is Motown’s next big star. Hoping to carry on the tradition Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and Dianna Ross set before him, Kevin Ross is heavily influenced by his predecessors. Ross already understands that R&B is “not just a specific sound, it’s a feeling.” The 20-something-year-old has hit the road opening up for Maxwell and Ne-Yo and collaborated with the likes of Jamie Foxx, T.I., and Akon to name a few. We think it’s safe to say that Kevin Ross is already making a name for himself amongst the greats and luckily for us, he’s only just begun.

I would describe my sound as Progressive R&B/Soul that bridges the gap between the past and present while embracing the future.
