Tasha Thomas cried and swore on the lives of relatives that John Crawford III was not carrying a firearm before entering a Walmart.

Before Beavercreek police Detective Rodney Curd allegedly knew John had obtained a BB gun at a Walmart, he assumed his girlfriend, Tasha (pictured left), helped him smuggle a firearm into the store to shoot his ex-girlfriend, the New York Daily News writes, citing a report from the Guardian.

During a 90-minute interrogation, Thomas ended up swearing on her brother’s grave that she had no idea where Crawford got a gun as they bought ingredients for s’mores at a Beavercreek Walmart on the evening of Aug. 5.

“We’re investigating a serious incident,” Curd told Thomas after two officers, Sgt. David Darkow and Officer Sean Williams, shot and killed her 22-year-old boyfriend. “You lied to me and you may be on your way to jail.”

A video obtained by the Guardian through a public records request shows more than an hour of harsh questioning as Thomas struggled to maintain her composure, the News writes, not realizing Crawford was dead.

“As a result of his actions, he is gone,” Curd finally said, according to the Guardian.

In September, a grand jury decided the was shooting justified, although the gun was fake and the shopper who alerted authorities later recanted a claim that Crawford was pointing the BB gun at customers.

Curd later said he had not known the BB gun was on sale at Walmart and assumed Crawford brought it into the store with the help of Thomas, the Guardian reported.

The shooting is part of an ongoing narrative in national protests against police violence in the Black community. Andrew Hawkins and at least one other Cleveland Browns player came out for pre-game introductions Sunday wearing T-shirts that read, “Justice for Tamir Rice and John Crawford,” according to USA Today. Rice, 12, who was playing with a toy gun at a playground, was shot and killed last month by a Cleveland police officer.
