For those of those dismayed by the celebrity crickets around the epidemic of police misconduct in this country (Charles Barkley this does not mean you), take heart — GOOD Music artist John Legend and his wife, model and food blogger, Christy Teigen are a fresh exception to the rule.

The cutesy couple came up with a genius idea to feed protesters via food trucks through Operation Help or Hush at Union Square in New York City for the #FergusonFamilyDinner this Sunday.

#OperationHelpOrHush is an online activist organization that grew organically on Twitter following the death of Mike Brown. It says it puts “a new spin on old school organizing” through organizing organizers, buying supplies for protests and providing travel expenses, and sustaining protesters through food. It says it’s also dedicated to leveraging resources for underserved communities.

Protesters continue to take to the streets daily across the country to bring light to the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases. Brown and Garner were two unarmed African American men killed by police officers who did not face any repercussions for their actions.

On Sunday hundreds who gathered in protest at Union Square were treated to some of the best eats in the city from three popular food trucks: Kimchi Taco Truck, known for its Korean BBQ; Milk Truck NYC, which gave out over 500 helpings of Mac & Cheese, and Nuchas, renown for it’s heavenly eempanadas.

Legend has been on it around Ferguson, even dedicating a line to the embattled hamlet in his song, “Glory,” with Common on the upcoming Selma soundtrack: “That’s why Rosa sat on the bus/That’s why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up.” Listen to “Glory” here.

Social media is ablaze with kudos to Legend and Tiegen, and deservedly so.
