Houston Rockets’ Dwight Howard might have been cleared of child abuse charges, but the doctor who examined his son Braylon Howard for bruises and abrasions said he was abused by a belt.

Howard was investigated and cleared for beating his 6-year-old son with a belt. He admitted to beating his son as discipline because that’s how he grew up.

According to TMZ Sports, documents from the Dept. of Children and Families (DCF) said, “Dr. Kesler noted Braylon to have a linear bruise and patterned abrasions consistent with the history given by Braylon of being struck with a belt numerous times by his father.”

Dr. Kesler called it physical child abuse. The document continued with, “consistent with Braylon being struck with the buckle end of the belt… with excessive force, resulting in soft tissue injuries such as bruising and abrasions.”

The doctor called out Howard’s parenting skills — saying he should attend parenting classes to come up with better ways to discipline his son.

Howard’s representative released a statement about the incident below:

“The Florida Dept. of Children and Families thoroughly examined all of the evidence and determined that there was insufficient evidence of child abuse.”

Howard’s ex Royce Reed took their son to Children’s Services when she discovered the bruises and abrasions on Braylon’s legs from the belt. And although the case is closed, Reed isn’t settling for that.

Reed and Howard have been battling over custody for Braylon for years. Howard criticized Reed — claiming she’s using their son against him.

“It is appalling to see a mother use her son as a pawn against his father in an attempt to extract money, which is what is happening in this case.”

Oscar Markus, Howard’s attorney, said in a statement the case was closed in Florida in September, and that Reed “is now shopping her baseless allegations to authorities in Georgia.”

“We are confident the Georgia authorities will reach the same conclusion as the Florida authorities,” Markus said in the statement. “The truth is on our side.”
