In a tragic story out of New York City, parents of a toddler who is now brain-dead and was allegedly killed by the mother’s husband are fighting over whether or not the child’s organs should be preserved. Terrell Smith, 26, the child’s father and 25-year old Teoka Spruill, the mother, will meet in Family Court next week to determine what should happen with their daughter.
Terrell Smith, 26, has vowed that his 2-year-old daughter, Thaiya Spruill-Smith, will be buried with her organs. The girl’s mother, Teoka Spruill, 24, wants to donate them.
“She was born with them and I want her to be laid to rest with them,” Terrell Smith, 26, told the Daily News, saying he plans to faceoff against his child’s mother in Family Court Monday.
“She should have no say over my daughter. My daughter is here because of her,” he said.
Spruill’s husband, David Adams, 25, allegedly attacked the child when she would not stop crying.
He told police he lifted the little girl up in the air and shook her, jerking her head around in the process, court documents charge.
Spruill-Smith was declared brain dead last Friday but remains on life support, pending the judge’s decision.
