The Tom Joyner Morning Show is in Tallahassee today and so is George Clinton – he’s made the city his home for the last 16 years. The leader of Parliament Funkadelic, Dr. Funkenstein, Clinton says he didn’t make much of a choice to move as he was still getting high back then, but he’s happy he did. He’s leading a very settled life these days, although he’s still making music.
Clinton’s new memoir, Brothas Be, Yo Like George, Ain’t That Funkin Kinda Hard On You? is out now.
“It’s doing very well. I’m on a tour now for the book and it’s like the road when we’re playing. People are just as hyped. They come out with their kids and their grandkids,” Clinton says. As Clinton has changed his look dramatically from the crazy colored hair and wild outfits he wore for years. These days he’s sporting tailored suits and sharp hats. He’s even going to church.
“I got married and all that,” Clinton says. “You’ve got to change sometimes. They’re in the business of giving out redemption.”
Marriage has been good for Clinton, apparently. A Black woman and Jesus, that’s all it took, he acknowledges, and the Tom Joyner Morning Show gets in a few licks at his expense.
But Clinton’s a good sport. He’ll be putting out a new record next week, First You Gotta Shake The Gate, five of which are included in the book via an app.
